Central Library was constructed in the campus with a total built up area of 929.03 square meters with 200 seating capacity having Digital library, Reading Room, Internet browsing centre, Reference Section, Periodical Section etc., Presently the College library has about 1,22,314 volumes with 56,339 titles and subscribe through N-List e- Journals 24,372 Journals and 942 Magazines, 1395 CDs and 4 Cassettes. The Library was developed to meet the needs of UG and PG students and doctoral candidates.
Digital Library with Internet facility is available in the library with 15 systems. The college library is fully automated. The main features of the library software are Bar code based circulation system.
LIBRARY TIMINGS:
Library works from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Monday to Saturday)
10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Sundays & Holidays)
MEMBERSHIP:
All Students and Staff are the members of the Library. Every student is eligible to take four books. The Student can keep a book with him /her for one month. Every Faculty is eligible to take five books and Non-teaching staff is eligible to take three books.
RULES AND REGULATIONS:
The Following Library Rules and Regulations are to be followed by Staff and Students of D.N.R. College (Autonomous) are as follows.
1. Every staff member is required to present his/her Identity Card before the entry into library and also for any transaction like at the time of issue / return / renewal.
2. Books shall be issued for 120 days and shall be renewed if required by them. If the book is overdue is beyond 150th day the library shall consider the book as a lost one and will collect twice the cost of the book from the user. If the borrower reports the loss of the book before 150th day, he/she shall be allowed to replace the book with the same edition which was lost or with a later edition.
3. Borrowers should keep their slips and books in safe custody.
4. Marking or writing with ink/pencil/any permanent marker, tearing or taking out of its pages or damaging it otherwise will be treated as an injury to a book. Any such injury to a book is considered to be serious offence, unless a borrower points out the injury at the time of borrowing of the book, he/she shall be required to replace the book or pay the double the cost of the book.
5. Reference books (encyclopedias, directories, dictionaries etc) and rare books should not be issued under any circumstances.
6. Back volumes of the periodicals are available for home lending to the staff. The same rules are applicable as in the case of books.
7. Every Student is required to present their Identity Card before any transaction like issue / return / renewal.
8. Books shall be issued for one month and shall be renewed on request, if nobody reserves them.
9. A student who fails to return the book on the due date shall have to pay a fine of Rs. 5/- for up to one month, Rs10/- for up to two months and Rs. 15/- for up to three months on each book. If the overdue period exceeds three months, the borrower has to pay a fine determined by the Library.
10. Borrowers should keep their books in safe custody.
11. Integrated book-bank scheme is available to S.C., S.T. students.
12. If any person is found stealing or misusing or displacing library books, he/she will be liable for severe punishment and fine.
13. Reference books issued overnight should be returned the following day between 08.00 a.m. to 09.00 a.m. Defaulters will be fined Rs. 50/- (rupees fifty only) each day during normal days and Rs.100/- (rupees one hundred only) per day during examinations and also their account in issue section will be blocked.
STUDENTS ADMISSION TO LIBRARY:
1. Students are allowed to Library only on production of their identity cards.
Students should deposit their belongings viz. textbooks, books borrowed from the Library and other printed materials, files, bags, etc in the property counter. One notebook and a small purse will be allowed inside the Reading Hall.
2. Strict silence should be maintained inside the Library. All students will be thoroughly checked by library staff / gate keeper while leaving the library.
3 The students must sign in the visitors book which in placed at the entrance of the Library.
CIRCULATION:
Circulation section also known as the library’s reception counters which takes care of book distribution, Collection and information facilitation. The following are the jobs attended to by the circulation section.
1. Registration of Members
2. Lending of Books
3. Renewal of Books
4. Charging of overdue charges (fines)
5. Maintenance of Records
6. Facilitation of Information / Answers to queries
PERIODICALS:
Periodicals include Journals, Magazines. Technical Journals are the primary source of information. Textbooks are secondary source of information. Handbooks and Encyclopedias are tertiary source of information. Information present in Journals is considered as the latest and nascent. Hence there is a greater importance for periodical section in a technical or any professional institute. Journals are outsourced from various sources and from various geographical regions.
With the advent of Internet, e-journals gained lot of significance. There are number of on-line bibliographic databases available in science and technology. The costs of the journals are increasing day by day. It is very difficult to procure all the journals by individual institutes. To curb this, Consortium approach came into existence.
We are procuring journals as per the University norms for our Library. We have subscribed e-journals through N-LIST.
REFERENCE:
1. Preparing special indexes and maintaining special files (News paper clippings etc.)
Providing selective dissemination of information to the users.
2. Providing abstracting service. Providing duplicating service or photo copying facilities.
3. Providing reference materials include Encyclopedias (General, Subject), Dictionaries, Yearbooks, Biographical Sources, Directories, Maps, Charts, Standards, Patents, Journals, Filmstrips, Atlases, Thesis, Dissertations, Technical reports, Trade documents and Government Publications.
REPROGRAPHIC:
Reprographic services are available in our library.
MEDIA & RESOURCE CENTER:
Apart from the Books, CDs and Audio Cassettes on various technical topics, updated study material is also made available for students to prepare for examinations.
AUTOMATION:
Ours is an automated Library. OPAC facility is provided. The main features of this software are:
1. OPAC (On-line Public Access Catalogue).
2. Provision for Stock Verification.
3. Library Management Modules e-cap version 5.2
4. Internet facility with 500 mbps is available in our library with 15 systems.
5. We are the members of National Digital Library (NDL) and National Programme on technology enhanced Learning library (NPTEL).
CAREER & GUIDANCE:
Guidance is the assistance to students in making intelligent choices. It promotes the utilization of one’s own potential. Students seek advice in a variety of situations such as educational, vocational and at times personal. We are supporting students by providing information to them on scholarships, postgraduate admissions, job opportunities etc. in our library.
SPECIAL SERVICES
1. Competitive cell: A Competitive cell with books and periodicals to prepare the students for UPSCC, APPSC, Banking, Net, SET exams etc is setup. Useful news papers clippings about the College, job websites, awards, research etc., are displayed in the library notice boards.
2. For the Visually Challenged: To facilitate and encourage learning among the visually challenged, library has a sizable collection of Braille Books.
3. MOU with other Colleges: DNR College has entered into an MOU with RRDS Government College, Bhimavaram. Under this MOU our College students can make use of RRDS Government College Library and Vice Versa.
4. Preservation of Books: In any Library the preservation of books is the major task. Regular dusting and spraying of pesticides keeps away insects, Fungus and book worms.
